Top Rated Breast Pumps

Ahh, breast pumps! Nature’s second-best solution to breast-feeding.

For moms who work or their babies have trouble with breastfeeding, these are crucial tools to feeding babies and keeping up a steady milk supply.

Getting ready to purchase a breast pump? Check with your insurance first.

Under the Affordable Care Act, most companies cover the cost of a breast pump.

Several even offer multiple options, meaning that you can sometimes choose the model you get for free from your insurance.

We’ve also put together a list of top rated breast pumps below for your review, along with some thoughts before purchasing.

There are two main types of breast pumps: Manual and Electric

Electric pumps can be regular or hospital-grade, single or double. Hospital-grade pumps are usually rented out by hospitals, and usually to moms that are having trouble breastfeeding or have babies in the NICU.

Most insurance will cover an electric grade, meaning that the pumps come with a cord or battery pack to keep their motor going.

Manual pumps are usually used by moms who want the freedom from a cord or battery, and/or are traveling for a quick overnight and do not want to bring their full pump.

Electric pumps usually can pump both breasts at once, while manual pumps usually only cover one breast at once.

I’m a huge fan of Medela, using both the Medela double electric “Pump in Style and the Medela “Harmony” hand-pump.

While the electric is always good, I’ve found that I enjoy the freedom of a hand-pump, using it in the car and keeping one hand free to manage the kids.
